We Love Akiba! is a small-scale fictional alternate history scenario about anime, manga, gaming, and loads of different otaku-isms! It heavily utilizes hand-crafted 'Hearts of Iron'-style super events for its storytelling. I hope you have fun looking at it!
Backstory
On one fateful day, after a series of previous incidents, a giant electrical explosion causes a civil war to occur in the Akihabara district of Tokyo. Many people located there are now trying to reunify Akiba with force to carve out a new state that can be molded to their specific vision of the neighborhood. Nobody knows who is actually behind the incidents; one can only wonder.
Ideologies
Epic Personality Rule
A somewhat despotic government run by a well-known (media) personality. This government type can also result in a kind of personality cult, the extent of which depends on each specific leader individually.
Right-Hand Artifexism
These types of states are ruled over by an artist or musician of some kind. They are more orderly and a bit more benevolent in their way of rule.
Left-Hand Artifexism
More chaotic and against-the-rules Artocracies. These will often try to greatly expand the definition of art and challenge long-held social norms.
Sunset Liberalism
A very relaxed and laid-back liberal governance, which is also reflected in the country's aesthetics. The leaders of these states are typically opposed to strong governments and authoritarianism.
Lunatic Cultism
States run by people that have gone more or less insane. They either believe in some complex esoteric concept or a supernatural higher being.
Benevolent Esotericism
A state run by a cute and benevolent witch. Aesthetically, they orientate themselves towards Mahou Shoujo media.
Tyranny
Extremely totalitarian and sometimes cruel governments that seek to have total control over the population.
Psychic Thoughtography
These types of states are ruled by actors that try to translate dreamy or psychedelic scenarios from their own minds into the real world and model their government after them.
Obsolete Amazement
Governments with a very old-school aesthetic that is heavily influenced by early 80s to late 90s Japanese media and societal values.
Immoral or Depraved Apparatus
Either heavily hedonistic and sexualized societies or illegalist near-anarchic state structures. Both types of government stray very far from the social norm in values.
Dial-Up Despotism
Rule over the internet, by internet personalities or by a non-human robotic being. It is unclear wether the machines have an actual conscience or not.
Adorable Artifexism
A type of artifexism that is neither explicitly left or right hand in their actions or aesthetics. They seek to utilize cuteness as one of the main factors of their rule and aesthetics.
Unidentifiable Director
I think I heard something knocking on my window's glass pane... I live on the third story, though, and there are no trees or anything in sight. Very unusual. Why does it feel like I am standing inside a puddle of water?
Factions
- The Japanese Government
- Obviously, the Japanese government wants to reinstate its control over Akihabara. Their goal is ultimately to secure the neighborhood and begin reconstruction. After reunification, they will try to take all necessary steps to prevent any more uprisings.
- Tunes Against Tyrants
- Music has always been a powerful tool to sway public opinion, and the musicians of Akihabara know how to optimally utilize this strength. Once the incidents began, they started to see the government as too authoritarian and decided to band together to fight for freedom.
- POLITICZ Mangaka Circle
- This small group of manga artists has decided to take matters into their own hands. The group's members are now fighting in the civil war, hoping to apply their respective fictional setting's aesthetics and potential governmental structures in real-life Akihabara.
- Coven of Cuteness
- It's about to get magical! A few people previously associated with some works of the Mahou Shoujo genre are now convinced that their magical powers are real. They want to use them to save the population of Akihabara and have sworn to utilize their magic for good things exclusively... well, most of them at least.
- Gemazu!
- A faction for all of my gamers out there! All the people here are in some way connected to video games or just programming in general, and they all have very differing ideas about how the future gaming-centered state in Akihabara is supposed to be run. Their aesthetics also tend to vary a lot from one leader to another.
- Sexual Liberation League
- Have you ever watched any... uhm... adult film and thought to yourself, "Hey, what if this sexy ass woman would lead her own country?"... No? Well, this faction is basically just that: people associated with adult media, both in the two- and three-dimensional space.
- Chaos Computer Club of Japan
- Do you, fellow non-Japanese citizen, spend a lot of time of your daily life sitting behind a computer screen, basically almost living in the digital world? If so, this faction might be the one to entice you most! Many Westerners that were vacationing in Akihabara at the time of the incidents have now formed an organization that aims to secure their own interests in this civil war.
- Order of the Otaku
- All of Akihabara's insanely obsessed geeks and nerds have also formed their own factions to show off their hyperfixations. This group is also very diverse in the types of "otaku" there are; each person here is unique in their way of dealing with problems, and not all of these folks are necessarily obsessed with anime or manga.
- The MoƩ Vanguard
- Cuteness overload! In some ways similar to the other factions of mangaka out there, these artists also seek to translate their creative works into a real-world scenario with the additional characteristic of revolving around cute stuff. Give me a hug!
- ########################
- The fate of Akihabara has been sealed... and nobody will be able to help it anymore...
Leaders
There will be a more detailed list of leaders in the future; for now, just use the description of the YouTube video for Part 1 as a reference.
